I’m Adrian Nen and I’m not a comics artist; also, I do not intend to become one. I’m too old and too old fashioned anyway, not in line with what they’re doing these days. I’m just a visual artist and I’m goin’ to do the things the way I like – my way, the good, old fashioned way. Am I a nostalgic ? Maybe… Why not ?! Am I the only one ?! I doubt that !
When I was a kid… I was fascinated by… well, “comics” seems not to be the best word in the world (!) to describe these… sometimes dramatic drawings. In French as well as in Romanian (I’m Romanian, btw, but French “comics” were my bible back then in my prime) these things are called “drawn strips”; English also has a term which is more appropriate in some cases – graphic novel, and Arv is such a case which suits this designation.
About my likes, let’s say that the best drawn “comics” (bandes dessinées/benzi desenate) of my childhood were simply and plain B&W. Am I a nostalgic ?! Of course I am; after all, these bandes dessinées/benzi desenate were the reason which kicked me ahead to became a visual artist.
So, in a way, I’m giving back… or trying to… trying to be in line with various and marvelous artists which enchanted my childhood with their creations. I’m not their level of course but a pathetic amateur (a novice), still, the most important, my work goals to preserve their tradition/heritage, if nothing else…
